100 Canadians

100 Portraits | 24” x 30” | Acrylic on Gallery-Wrapped Canvas

The title of this project is “100 Canadians” which explores Canadian identity in the face of existential threat by the United States. Canada is a rich, diverse country with a global reputation for being a kind, polite, and humorous people. But what happens when we’re challenged? Are we still polite? What does it look like when a Canadian is confronted with an existential crisis?

Does our identity strengthen?

Grow?

Change?

What happens?

Who are we and what do we feel?

Where do we go from here?

The portraits are raw and as far from “airbrushed” as possible to relay the real-world circumstances in which Canadians find themselves. It is not a portrait of idealized, impossible beauty but the richness of nature and reality.

This project is set to begin in the planning stages in September 2025 with showings of every 10-20 portraits (depending on available space) every 4-6 months.

Sitters will be asked:

How do you feel as a Canadian?

How does it feel to be Canadian at this moment in time?

What does the future hold for Canadians?

Sitters’ responses will be recorded and included in the showings.

A modest honorarium will be available for each sitter. Each sitter will have to sign a model release.
